elephant talk-indie music fest

AC was awesome!  Lots of great music, great people.  Alex Vans and Adrian Hardkor sounded fantastic, to name a couple, and Jerry Ryan kicked butt putting everything together.  We played at La Grande Fromage and had great response, thanks everyone for watching our set!  We'll definitely make it out again next year, if things fall into place.  (And assuming we can find a babysitter for our new youngest member.  Yes, Tini, we may have to make him an honorary pot & pan banging, singing & wailing baby musician.  It just might have to happen.)

I have pics!  But can't figure out how to download them on my new computer without crashing it yet.  Sigh.

Great show, thanks again everyone, band and otherwise, for all the hard work and awesome rockin' outness.

Off and running (well almost)

We all took off this lazy summer afternoon from work so we could rehearse one last time before our big New Jersey debut tomorrow!

We're apparently playing at the "Boneyard Stage" -- sounds ominous around noon time.  Due to some last minute shuffling, this means we'll be leaving DC around 5am tomorrow (UGH!). What to do though, got to beat that beach traffic.

More about our adventure once we return. See you in AC!

The Crash Take Off crafts.

So the Crash Takeoff in addition to being serious rockers has also taking up crafting.

That's right we're that cool.  See below what we do when we take the week off from practice.

Even Leeloo the Absentee Cat makes an appearance

For example, here is as he Chet shows apprehension as he stitches his racoon keychain...
I think he's doing a fine job.

We're playing in Atlantic City!!

The Crash Take-Off will be playing at Elephant Talk Indie Music Magazine Festival in Atlantic City, August 7! More details to come. But yay, gambling and music, who doesn't love that?!

Audrey's Golden Birthday

The very fabulous Audrey White, lead singer and guitarist, celebrated her 29th on the 29th of June! In celebration, we went and did what most middle/highschool boys do to have a good time: LASER TAG.
It was basically Awesome, the Red Team (that of the birthday girl itself) won and the rest of us were relegated to 2nd and 3rd place. Celebration continued with excellent eats at Log Dog Pizza and boooze at P. Brennan's.  Happy Birthday Auds!

Punk Rock and Bloody Rides

Thank you to all those who came out to the show on Thursday at the Four Fields to support Lisa and her mission trip to Israel.   I feel I should explain why I had a scowl on my face and contusions and scraps up and down my legs.

Yes, to be honest I almost went Pete Townshend on my amp.  The little piece of crap shorted out on me four times in the middle of the set.  DO NOT BUY LINE 6 AMPS.  It did serve a good purpose teaching me how to use different amp voicing while practicing, however if you are going to play out get a tube amp.  Also, I broke a string and my guitar wasn't quite sounding in tune after that.  Arg, yes I felt punk rock, yes I was channeling the Sex Pistols to rage with my music.

So, onto the bruises.  Mountain bikers like to be close with nature, but not as close as I got last weekend.  We'll say I became very intimate with a rock, some trees, and my handlebars.  Check out some pictures right before a jump at my last race (notice the blood dripping down my leg - awesome):

Recording!

While Tini is in Italy (which is super awesome for her, super lame for us), Kelly and I decidedly dragged poor Chet away from his precious sleep and used up all three hours of his day.  (When you work 12 + hours a day, commute for 1 hour and sleep for 8, that only leaves a smidge of free time...)

So thanks Chet!!  We recorded some awesome harmonies and bass lines and are almost done with tracking our Waltz and Loop, now named "Almost There."

I think we'll have to write a song about sleep deprivation and being overworked.  Any thoughts on lyrics?

Re: Canceling Practice for Tomorrow, 2/9

holy snow batman!!

i'm at my man's working on WAY overstaying my welcome :)

j/k.  we're having a blast eating ourselves into drunken stupors and whatnot.  i've been writing a horrible ghost story based on this haunted mansion.  we had no heat/electricity for 2 days!! and we managed to keep laszlo alive, as well as ourselves.  we're back up to speed now.  i haven't been to work in a week!  this is the first i've been away this long since i started w/the company.  feels awesome to not have any clue what day or time it is or what's going on in the world.

maybe i should write some lyrics about it!!

Tuesday, February 2, 2010

I have a feeling we are going to be eating a lot of pizza in the future.

Does that make us Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles?  Of course not!  But it does mean that we are going to be spending a lot of time in the studio in the near future.

We spent about five hours getting our record on, this past Sunday.  Most of the time was spent on me recording my licks and cursing at my fingers for squeaking and Tini laying down some beats.

Although I was frustrated, it was a pretty great experience to go through, espcially because I never would have imagined ever doing something like recording an album or have I even had the desire to record an album.  I guess somethings just happen to you in life.

Life Rocks!

PHOTOSPHOTOSPHOTOSPHOTOS!!

Busy Busy Busy.

So we've been busy. We're back in the studio this Sunday for a marathon recording. Audrey and I have been working on a community theater production, Spoon River Anthology, but will be back to rockin' soon enough.  Kelly is preparing for some craaaazy races and Chet's just enjoying his awesomeness (which he shared by attending the play last weekend, yay!).

Anyway, we're booking up for March. Stay tuned for more.

Making a demo/ "I need a beer (repeat)"

Fight Club & Poo Arm

This is the scene.  Its 12:15, all of us PASSED OUT. We made Kelly stay up to watch Fight club for the third time this week.  And all of us, PASSED OUT. Vodka doesn't agree with us as well.

A question from Audrey:

********************************

So here's the all- important question:

Would you rather:
Be dating someone you're madly in love with for a year and then find out they're your first cousin

OR

For one year, and one year only, have a poo arm?

The conditions of the poo arm:

You can do anything you would normally do, pick things up, play guitar, etc, but you will smear poo all over everything you touch.  it's only one of your arms.  if it gets knocked off or anything, it regenerates.

****************************************

I'll choose the first-cousin. I don't have any first cousins in real life, maybe that's what's making it easier to stomach.

Drunken Details brought to life

Last night was a blast!

Thanks Kelly for making us take all of those yummy shots and for also then making us sleep on your couch.  I only smelled a little bit like alcohol at work and thanks to Dominos, had ZERO hangover!  Hurrah!

Practicing for Demo Recording

We're bundled up in the basement and getting ready to record our demo on this Sunday...

Then Chet came and joined, but not before hiding out on the stairwell.

New Years Eve!

12.31.09

Evidence of the following: Our propensity to drink whiskey  & We really do play in a band.

Hi.

This is us. Kelly is hiding. But we're here. All of us.

I thought this would be fun to "journal" (so emo!) about us being a band.  We'll all write and tell you what we're up to (in case you care).

Audrey sings and plays guitar and keyboard (the triple threat!)
Chet plays bass and he's our single XY component.
Kelly is the rockin' lead guitarist always wearing a hot skirt.
Tini (that's me!) plays drums in the back and tries not to drop sticks and speed up songs.

 More to come!
